There are many different styles of dog training, and finding the one that works best for you is important for creating a dog that is a talented, loyal and faithful member of the family. All successful methods of dog training work to reinforce the relationship between dog and handler, and the foundation of any successful training program is getting the respect of the dog. Fortunately, dogs are wired by nature to seek out leaders, and to follow the direction of those leaders.
This article focuses on one of the most popular methods of dog training – the so called leash/collar style of training. Other articles will focus on the other popular style of training dogs, often called reward training or positive reinforcement.
Both leash/collar training and reward training have been around for a very long time, and they have proven their effectiveness over time. The type of training that works best will vary from dog to dog, and from breed to breed. It is important to remember that each breed of dog has its own unique qualities, reinforced by hundreds of years of selective breeding.
Of course personalities of individual dogs vary quite a bit, even within established breeds. You, as the owner of the dog, know better than anyone which style of dog training will work best, so it is important to work with the trainer you choose to achieve your goal of a willing, obedient and friendly dog.
Leash and collar training is the best way to accomplish many types of dog training, particularly in situations where the dog must have a high level of reliability. For instance, dogs that have an important job to do, such as rescue dogs, police dogs and guard dogs, generally benefit from leash and collar training.
In leash and collar training, varying degrees of force can be used, ranging from slight prompts with the lead to very harsh corrections. The amount of correction used should be appropriate to the situation, since using too much correction, or too little, will be ineffective.
In a collar and leash based dog training program, first the dog is taught a particular behavior, generally with the leash. After the dog has demonstrated that it understands the command, the leash is then used to correct the dog if it disobeys, or when it makes a mistake. The leash is the main form of controlling and communicating with the dog in leash and collar training.
When using leash and collar training, the dog must be trained to trust the handler and accept his or her directions without question. In order for the dog to be fully trained, the handler must demonstrate the ability to place the dog into a posture or position he or she does not want to take. This does not mean using force, but it does generally require some level of physical manipulation. This manipulation is most easily and safely done using the main tool of leash and collar training – the leash.
It is important for every would be dog trainer to understand that the leash is simply a tool. While the leash is an important tool in this form of training, it is important for the dog trainer to be able to eventually achieve the same results using whatever tools are at hand.
Even when the only tools at hand are the owner’s body and skill, the dog should be willing to obey. Creating a leader/follower relationship between handler and dog is still very important, and it is important to use the leash as a tool and not a crutch. A properly trained dog should be willing to obey whether the leash is present or not.

51 Billion Dollar Industry
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
51 Billion Dollars and rising! Sounds like a company a wise investor should invest in. After all, having a piece of a 51 billion dollar industry is an exciting prospect, filled with anticipation for the future right? Not this time. This industry takes away any hope for the future. Any promise of potential greatness is dashed to the ground, becoming ashes and dust when people continue to invest in this business.
Warnings have been issued over the years advising people to avoid investing in this global industry. Still people chose to purchase the stock – some one share at a time, others in large quantities. Each time they invest even one dollar into this corporation, they participate in destroying their own lives as well as the dreams and aspirations of others. Family and friends are even forced into the role of unwitting participants.
The government has taken a stand, as well as various groups around the globe, making it harder for people to invest in this corporation. Still people chose to disregard the signs that will eventually lead to their own demise. They continue their dangerous path of destruction. Why? Why do well educated human beings choose a pathway that is known to cause heartache and utter despair in order to be part of 51 billion dollar industry?
Doesn’t this elusive business have enough of our hard earned money? As well as our personal blood, sweat and tears? I’m sure you’re probably wondering to yourselves “What industry can she possibly be writing about?” Perhaps you would like to know if you have somehow missed the hundreds of warnings that are issued each year about this industry. Well here is the answer: Have you ever gotten behind the wheel of a vehicle with any alcohol, even one drink in your system? If you have, then you have invested in the 51 billion dollar club.
It is estimated that each year 51 billion dollars is spent on alcohol related crashes. During 2003 (NHTSA 2004a), 17,013 deaths occurred in the U.S. alone because of alcohol impaired drivers. 2,136 of those deaths were children under the age of 14. These investors have killed the future. This represents nearly ½ of all traffic related deaths in the U.S.
Most of those murdered were unsuspecting bystanders not the impaired driver. And that is after all, what this is…murder. Vehicular Manslaughter. Vehicular Homicide. You can put whatever name you want on this criminal action to help lesson the burden of the offenders, but the fact is they knowingly got behind the wheel of what turned out to be a killing machine and killed.
Although the court system doesn’t define it as such, actions of this sort can even be likened to First Degree Murder. Just look at the definitions for a moment. Taken directly from lawforkids.org, first degree murder is defined as: “causing the death of another person with either the intent or knowledge that the conduct will cause death and with premeditation. Premeditation is often described as ‘malice aforethought,’ which basically means that you probably considered the consequence of your conduct for at least a second before you committed the act.”
With all the education available, those who drink and drive know the possible consequences of their actions before they get into their vehicle to drive. Yet, still they turn on the ignition, shift into first gear and off they go.
Why do we allow the death toll from this activity to continue? Several years ago people used the excuse “There but for the grace of God go I” to turn a blind eye to the problem. That’s about the time I discovered that the second member of my family, my sister, had been killed in an alcohol related crash. (Jurors were sympathetic to the driver of the vehicle, thinking back to times they had gotten behind the wheel of their car after having a “drink or two.”) The drivers in all these cases got off with a warning or a light sentence.
I have since lost another 5 members of my family and friends to these murderers. Lest you think these are mere statistics I am citing for you, let me put names to my data: Rosie (my cousin, 28 and a mother of a newborn in the car at that time), Janet (my sister, “twin” and best friend 22), Marsha (my cousin, 25 and the mother of a five year old in the car at the time), and Lisa (my counselee, 12) as well as her mother (36) and her brother Jonathan (8). As if that wasn’t enough, a few weekends ago the tally in my family went up again.
Natasha, 16 years old, was on the way to her winter ball. A drunk driver crashed into the side of her vehicle, killing her instantly and turning her boyfriend into a quadriplegic. Thanks to yet another driver who chose to be part of the 51 Billion Dollar Club. This driver hasn’t had his sentencing hearing yet.
How can we stop the carnage? Law enforcement has doubled efforts to curtail DWI’s, setting up sobriety checks and adding stiffer penalties on both the drivers and the establishments they had been drinking in. Criminal and Civil lawsuits have inundated the courts. Education has been tripled and pamphlets are even sent out with our yearly car registration.
There are agencies that offer free rides to any driver who calls them in need of transportation after drinking. There is also the option of sleeping in your car, spending 55 cents on a phone call if you don’t have a cell phone handy, or paying $69.00 at a local motel if all else fails. Yet all of this is obviously still not enough to detour some people from getting behind their wheel and taking the life of another innocent victim.
So what is the answer? To tell you the truth, I don’t know. But I do know what will help. From one heartbroken member of these senseless tragedies, I am going to do what I can to get laws imposed that require every vehicle have Ignition Interlock systems installed on them.
Interlock systems are currently used for repeat offenders in many states around the U.S., but we need a shift from light punishments and warnings, into prevention. I believe that installing these units on every new vehicle sold and requiring them to be installed on every used vehicle in U.S. (a check could be made during smog inspections to see that the law was obeyed) would save taxpayers court costs and insurance companies billions of dollars every year. More importantly, it would save family and friends the devastating loss of yet another innocent victim and another trip to the morgue to identify their loved one.
For those of us who don’t drink and drive, it will be a minor nuisance. For those who do drink and drive, they will fight any steps that inconvenience their irresponsible and potentially deadly lifestyle. Think back a little to the seat belt issue. Many opposed the seatbelt law when it went into affect.
But why were we forced to wear our seatbelts? Because most people didn’t do so voluntarily, and the number of accidental deaths and near fatal injuries that could have been prevented was so staggering that government decided to step in and intervene on our behalf. The deaths and injuries were senseless. The same holds true here. Drinking and driving is a senseless and often times unjustly punished crime.
Won’t you join me in this fight? Don’t let the next phone call you get late at night be from the hospital telling you a loved one was injured in a drunk driving accident. Don’t let the knock at the door at 3 AM be from a policeman telling you someone you loved has just been killed in an alcohol related death. What price would you be willing to pay for your son or daughter, sister or brother, mother or father? Forever is a long time. Are you willing to pay the price for the 51 billion dollar club? Think about Ignition Interlock systems and contact your state officials – put the pressure on them. Let them know we won’t stand for the rules of the 51 Billion Dollar Club anymore.

Successful Marketers Embrace The Article Directory
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
People in the internet marketing community have discovered a new form of marketing web pages and exchanging links, and this method is quickly gaining a large head of steam. The basic system works like this: a person will write a page of content, and then allow a foreign website to publish that content in exchange for a link in a resource box on the page. This idea appeals to both parties for several reasons, which I’ll outline.
Article Directories follow the metaphysical law of Reciprocation. What this means in Layman’s Terms is: you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. Both parties get something out of the arrangement, and all is good. If you contrast this particular method of marketing to the more odious method of “scraping content”, and you’ll quickly see why article directories are considered to be the wave of the future when it comes to interactive and co-operative marketing. Article directories allow for participation by:
1)webmasters who want to use the articles
2)The Webmaster who wrote the article and who receives promotional credit for publishing it
3)The end user who gets high quality content that may not have been available otherwise.
If you haven’t already begun article creation, you better get started soon. Right now, the article directory industry is exploding. What better way to promote your website than to write expert articles that make you and your subject matter stand out from the crowd? If you’re an excellent writer, you can greatly expand the audience of your website by expanding your reach on the internet. Once you’re published on a multitude of websites, you can expect a great deal of direct traffic as well as search engine juice from your many installed articles. If you think about 10 articles that are on over 100 sites, you can quickly see that’s 1,000 pages that now link to you with information about you and your website. Done consistently, for months on end, there is no better way of increasing your exposure than authoring and submitting articles on your favorite subjects. If you’re not already an expert on a subject, then what better time to start than now?
You are best off writing individual articles for the web directories that do not appear on your own website. Otherwise, you may run into the very real risk of the article directory outranking you for your very own content! Generally article directories are very popular website with a great deal of traffic and link popularity, so they often will rank for your article. If you use original content, you can expect additional traffic, that doesn’t interfere with your websites traffic at all. Submitting content to article directories is not a miracle cure for all of your ranking blues, but it’s a great start for a deserving website on the road to recognition. Only by getting the word out, can you expect others to be able to find the wonderful resource that is your website.
Taking Advantage of “Slow no bid” eBay Auctions.
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
No one like it when they get no bids on there Ebay auction, but it happens.
Some auctions get hundreds of bids, but some go much more slowly, getting only a few bids or even none at all for days. Auctions are generally much slower during the summer months than they are in the winter – and sales on eBay are slowing each year, as more sellers than buyers sign up, hoping to get rich quick. There are a number of ways that you can take advantage of slower auctions to get the best price.
Wait to Bid.
If you bid, then everyone can see you’re interested – and that might make them interested too. Leaving the item alone for as long as you can bear will make it look less popular, and keep the price down so you can come in at the last minute and get a bargain.
Make an Offer.
If the seller is selling an item using ‘Buy it Now’ and it still hasn’t sold when the auction is about to end, use eBay’s ‘Best Offer’ service to make them an offer on it. The chances are they’ve listed the item two or three times before, and they’ll be so annoyed at the prospect of re-listing it yet again that they’ll accept your offer just to get rid of the thing.
Conspire with Other Buyers.
You might not have thought of this, but if there are two auctions for the same item and only you and one other buyer are bidding, why not get together and work out a ‘you take this one and I’ll take that one’ deal? This avoids you raising the price on both auctions just to get one each. If you make a few friends, you can even work together on auctions long-term, taking it in turns to bid.
Be Snobbish.
Send the seller emails asking questions about the condition of the item, and making it very clear that you are a discerning buyer and will only accept things of the highest quality. This will make them feel better about selling you their item for less.
Don’t Feel Guilty.
There really are too many sellers on eBay now, to the point where you can get common items at very low prices. Long-term, this will probably force those sellers out of business, but that’s the way a market works – it’s supply and demand.
Buy in Bulk.
When auctions are slow, many sellers will have had the same stock for a long time. If you offer to take ten things off their hands all at once then you can almost name your price – the chances are that they’ll fall over themselves to give you a good deal. If you come back again and buy another ten items then they’ll love you even more.
The longer you spend on eBay, the more experienced you’ll become – and the greater the chances are that you’ll stumble across an auction for something very odd, and quite unexpected. In the next email, you’ll hear all about the strangest eBay items ever sold.
In fact, there are all sorts of tricks you can use on eBay, if you want to get ahead of the game. Remember that most buyers on eBay are casual, and don’t know what they’re doing: a little knowledge can go a long way in getting you an advantage.
When your sellers aren’t in such good standing, though, you need to be careful to avoid being a victim of fraud. There are a few scams that you especially need to look out for – we’ll cover them in the next article.
A Beginners Guide to Spread Betting
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
I’ve never been in a bookies office, but the idea of spread betting in the comfort of my own home offers significantly greater appeal, and there are a number of websites I can look to find ideas. Spread betting offers a more interesting bet on the difference between two teams’ scores, or the likely total outcome of goals, points or scores in a sporting event, than traditional sports betting.
With the proliferation of online bookmakers, and peer-to-peer or exchange betting sites, you can also make a bet online, potentially against real bettors, rather than bookmakers. But to begin with, it might be more straightforward to get to grips with the basics of spread betting, and find out what you can potentially win (or lose)!
The bookmaker’s interest in spread betting is to encourage people to make a wider range of bets. In the US, this is usually applied to the difference in scores between two football or baseball teams. In the UK, it tends to be applied to the total amount of goals or corners during a football match.
In spread betting, a bettor bets on a difference score (an index), rather than a win outcome. For example in a game between Aston Villa and Chelsea, a bookmaker might offer a spread of between two and three as the total number of goals scored (this could be a decimal figure). As a bettor, you could choose to ‘buy’ when you believe the total number of goals will be greater than three, or ‘sell’ where you believe the outcome will be less than two (the lower end of the bookie’s range).
The amount you stake will normally have a maximum limit. If you believe, contrary to the bookmaker, that this will be a high-scoring game, then you will ‘buy’ for a score above an upper limit.
Say your stake was 10 quid, then for a 3-2 outcome (a total of 5 goals) then you would receive 10 GBP (your original stake) for every point or goal above the upper limit of three, which would mean 2 X 10 = 20 pounds. If the outcome was 1-0 to Chelsea, you’d lose by threepoints (3 x 10=30 pounds). Obviously, you’d need to have enough in your account to cover the worst-case scenario.
The same could be applied to horse racing, where the spread would be the total number of points awarded to the bookie’s favourite, second favourite and third favourite horses. You could bet on a US football game, following the American style of betting on the difference between the two teams’ scores. Or if cricket is your preferred sport, you could choose to bet on the total number of runs made by an individual player either side of a certain range.
The history of spread betting
Before the invention of spread betting, people were likely to bet on a standard win or lose situation such as that favourite Chelsea would beat Aston Villa by an odds of three to one, or that underdog Colchester United would beat Arsenal depite the odds being 6 to 1.
Spread betting was invented by American Charles McNeil in the 1950s, a one-time maths teacher, and gambling afficionado who had opened his own bookmaking operation. He believed that he could determine not just who would win, but by how much, and being something of a whizz, he generally got it right.
Online spread betting
These days, you have a number of places to find out about or make your first spread bet. You can go directly to a high street bookmaker to open an account in the light of a future match. Or you could visit an online gaming site, where you may be able to benefit from introductory offers and read articles about how to find out more about spread betting.
Introductory offers could include cashback for a certain number of bets – have a look around to find the deals that suit you best and at odds that make sense to you. Peer-to-peer or exchange betting sites match potential betters with opposing views on the likely outcome of a sporting event, so that they bet directly against each other.
Perhaps the best thing about spread betting is that it offers a way for people to combine the old-fashioned skill of the football pools with the ease of modern technology.
How Fashion Merchandising School Can Get You a Fashion Career
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Before you make the big decision about whether to go to fashion merchandising school, it is a good idea to know exactly what is involved, what the curriculum is, how long it runs for and whether this type of career is really the best thing for you to focus on.
If you love fashion, you are probably a creative individual with your own ideas and inspirations. The whole fashion industry thrives on new ideas but with the best fashion designs in the world, if you do not know how to market them, no one will see your creations and this will ultimately lead to frustration.
The world of fashion design incorporates much more than simply design and production and it is a tough world to break into. There are thousands of aspiring designers and knowing what looks stylish is only a part of the battle for recognition. Willingness on your part to accept new ideas and study hard is absolutely essential.
In a fashion merchandising school, you will be taught how to promote your designs and arouse interest in potential consumers. You will learn how to recognise new trends and how to fine tune and improve your own designs.
There are many such schools to choose from so it depends what exactly you wish to learn. The most important things are to hone your merchandising skills to an art form and learn other relevant skills to help you attain success. When you are comparing schools, check their facilities, scholarship plans and the staff.
Unless you have plenty of money to spare, a scholarship can be crucial in covering your expenses. Nearly every fashion designer school can provide some kind of scholarship to help you out.
Before enrolment it is prudent to find out what sort of equipment and facilities the school in question has on offer. You can use your own equipment if you prefer (and if you can afford it) but you need to know what to expect when you get there. Do some research on the teachers available at your chosen school. Find out if you can their qualifications and credibility. A great teacher can make the difference between a struggling student and a successful one.
Another very important factor is the student to teacher ratio. How many students is each teacher responsible for? Obviously, in a very large class, each individual student receives less attention from the teacher. If the classes are very large, you have to wonder why the school is economising on staffing. On the other hand, if the classes are very small, you should question why so few students have wanted to enrol there. Hands-on teaching methods would suffer if the class was enormous and this could result in a great deal of frustration for the student. Try to strike a happy medium – an average sized class is your safest bet.
Fashion merchandising school graduates ought to receive sufficient guidance after their training to enable them to reach the next step of their career. When you leave the school, it is very important to know what you will be doing next. If it is not the school policy to give you some kind of assistance in finding a job when you have completed the course, this should sound alarm bells. It can be difficult to get your first placement without the school’s help.

An Introduction To Hypnosis
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
In order to practice hypnosis for therapeutic reasons you will need three elements: imagination, concentration, and a real motivation to be hypnotized.
Every time someone works with a group to induce hypnosis we can still say we are talking about self-hypnosis.
It is every person’s individual option if they wish to collaborate with the operator and experience hypnosis.
Releasing the power of your subconscious mind takes some time and practice, but it can then be used to improve most aspects of your life. Therapeutic hypnosis is not available to all people, but most of us can reach light or medium states through concentration and patience.
Deep levels of hypnosis produce the best therapeutic results, but beginners may also achieve efficient states of relaxation and inner peace too.
Lighter levels of hypnosis usually enable their operators to experience feelings of relaxation and calmness. Various perceptions of physical changes may also occur – tingling sensations in the fingers, blinking eyelids, a sensation of weight in some parts of the body etc.
The intensity of these experiences is low, but a few weeks of practice can teach you how to develop these skills even further. Another element that often relates to initial hypnosis is time distortion.
Most subjects will believe they were hypnotized for a shorter amount of time than it is in reality. After a few hypnotic experiences a person will start to get a better perception of the passing time.
The altered state becomes more enhanced as we progress to medium levels of hypnosis. Physical perceptions gain more importance and the subject may experience heightened tingling feelings or heaviness in the lower body.
Some subjects experience floating sensations and all these feelings are perceived as being very real by the one being hypnotized. This stage allows the hypnotist to suggest stronger visual images in the subject’s mind. At this level, creating illusions becomes more accessible. New thresholds that were unavailable previously now become apparent.
Conscious awareness may fade out for the patient when the level of hypnosis deepens.
Even better mental and physical responses can be achieved through the somnambulistic levels of hypnosis. Several physiologic responses can be observed, such as the REM (rapid eye movement) usually associated with dreams during sleep. At this stage the patients may experience complete conscious amnesia, being virtually absent from their surrounding reality.
This is also the level where strong hallucinations occur, during the actual hypnosis process and even after it ends. Hypnosis is seen as the sleep of the nervous system. There is a decrease of the rate of respiration, not as strong as the one experienced during sleep. Circulation also slows down, together with the brain waves.
Brain waves variations in intensity start with beta, the fastest, then slow to alpha, theta and delta. Beta waves are primary when the mind is under a normal state of consciousness. Reduced levels of hypnosis decrease the brain wave activity to alpha and deeper levels may take a subject’s brain waves all the way to theta.
Various applications of hypnosis include therapeutic pain relief, psychological treatment and many more.

Have the Virus Suites Become Too Big?
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Everyone knows you cannot surf the Internet without good, active and up-to-date anti-virus software. But, on the other side, a large virus software suite running in the background can have an adverse effect on your system performance.
This article is directed at the Big Three. These are Norton(Symantec), Trend Micro, and McAfee. When it comes to these products you have to ask, “How much is too much?”. All three, while trying to compete for our desktop, have expanded to the point that they are now part of the problem.
The problems vary, but here are a few: First is system resources. The most telling is the amount of RAM they use followed by CPU cycles. If you have a smaller, older or econo box you will see a considerable loss of performance due to the fact that the software is running in the background. This requires alot of memory and system resources to perform all the added functions of these large virus software suites.
Next, is how they write themselves in to the operating system. To do their job virus software has to be fairly invasive. But to make it work across a range of different operating systems, sacrifices need to be made. If they didn’t, it would be impossible for the same piece of software to run on WIN98 and then work on Windows XP.
Now the problem here is usually when the software updates, or is not properly uninstalled. This is especially true with Norton. It is not uncommon after an update to experience anything from system lock up, to not being able to access secure websites.
Another issue is confusion. All major manufacturers bundle the different suites with their systems. The problem is they are usually 30 – 60 day trial versions. When they expire most customers don’t know what to do. Some buy the online upgrade, nine times out of ten, the upgrade will fail. This is especially true with Norton.
In addition, many people try to uninstall these anti-virus programs improperly. Most people go right to add and remove programs, not knowing that Norton has an uninstall tool to properly uninstall their security suite. These will all lead to connection or performance issues. And, some people just ignore the expired software and either download another or go without. Each of these approaches causes it’s own set of problems.
All you really need is one good basic virus scanning software without all the bells and whistles. Bottom line, you have to have virus protection, no question. But you are not limited to the Big Three, who seem to care more about your wallet than your computer.
Selling WHM Reseller Hosting to Vendors
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Say you’re a web host who just bought a dedicated server. Say you’ve decided to offer your space to resellers – that is, people who buy large amounts of web space with the explicit intent to resell them. If you want to attract resellers, you may wish to offer a web space management software that they are already familiar with, and WHM reseller hosting is one of the features you could safely put at the forefront of your marketing campaigns.
There are many good options for web space management software, but WHM is definitely among the most popular. Offering WHM reseller hosting accounts is arguably tantamount to offering a premium hosting account. Many resellers seek the ease of use and user-friendliness afforded by the WHM – or the very simply and aptly named Web Host Management software – in creating user accounts for their reseller space.
Now just in case your target resellers don’t have the faintest idea what WHM is, you must be able to present a primer on the virtues of this particular software. If possible, have a demo of the WHM on your site – or, if you plan to meet with resellers in person, prepare to demonstrate how easy it is to use WHM to create and manage user accounts.
What exactly is WHM, in the first place? Well, for starters, it’s a web space management program created by cpanel.net. This company also created another popular proprietary software: cPanel. This is one of the most popular – if not THE most popular – web panel programs out there. It is so much in demand, and so available in the market, that if you happen to be looking around for web space for your individual use, chances are you the web host you’ll end up recruiting because of the prices and excellent support it promises offers cPanel functions.
Because cPanel.net made both cPanel and WHM, WHM is usually bundled in with cPanel when it is marketed to web hosts. And cPanel has been specifically designed for use by a web host, which is why it has no lower-cost license for individual personal use. When you buy a server and want a cPanel license, you only have to pay the license once per server, not once per domain created within the server. This makes cPanel exceptionally practical for web hosts that need to start off small.
And since WHM comes bundled in with a server installation of cPanel, it is practical for web hosts to include WHM reseller hosting in their list of assets as well. Marketing the virtues of cPanel and WHM to resellers ought ot be easy for you once you’ve tried out these programs yourself, as a web host.
